Bolsa Grande Rallies to Defeat Katella

Bolsa Grande made up a seven-point halftime deficit and defeated Katella, 76-67, in the championship game of the Katella boys’ basketball tournament Thursday.

Willie Montgomery scored 25 points to lead Bolsa Grande, which outscored Katella, 43-27, in the second half. Omar Amaral and Jon James each scored 19 points for the Matadors.

Phillip Tyson scored 17 points and Nick Novella 16 for Katella.

In the third-place game:

Harbor City Narbonne 79, Western 53--Robert Turner led Western with 31 points. Ezoma Mmeje scored a game-high 33 points for Narbonne.

In the Brea Olinda tournament:

Brea Olinda 75, Claremont 69--Brea Olinda won the title game after trailing by 16 midway through the third quarter. Landon Lewis made three three-pointers and Ryan Wilber tied the score with a three-pointer with about two minutes remaining. Wilber, who scored 22 points, then had a steal and layup to give the Wildcats the lead for good.

In the Canyon tournament:

El Dorado 73, Chino Don Lugo 35--El Dorado outscored Don Lugo, 47-16, in the second half to put the third-place game away. Quinn Hawking led the Golden Hawks with 18 points.

In the Granite Hills tournament:

Los Angeles Pacific Hills 87, University 70--University (10-4) fell behind by 18 at the half of the championship game. Andy Lawrence led the Trojans with 27 points.

In the Long Beach St. Anthony tournament:

West Torrance 51, Brethren Christian 45--Mike Oparah scored 23 points and was seven for eight from the free-throw line for Brethren Christian (8-7) in the third-place game. Lee Mamaradlo had 16 points and seven assists for the Warriors.

In the Orangewood Academy tournament:

Heritage Christian 63, San Pedro Mary Star 53--Heritage Christian led all the way and won its first tournament title. Jason Grier had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Matt Winter had 13 points and five blocks for Heritage Christian (9-4).

In the Torrey Pines tournament:

No. 4 Villa Park 71, Chaparral (Ariz.) 55--After losing its tournament opener, Villa Park (13-2) won four straight, including the consolation final. Junior point guard Tony Bryant had 21 points and seven assists. Matt MacGinnis added 20 points and Tom Stanken had 17 points and 16 rebounds.
