Fullerton Beats Irvine Valley to Win Tournament
Fullerton won its sixth consecutive game by defeating Irvine Valley, 74-52, in the championship game of the Fullerton women’s basketball tournament Thursday night at Fullerton College.
Fullerton (13-6), which is 11-1 in the tournament over the last three years, broke open a close game in the second half by outscoring Irvine Valley, 40-22, behind the play of Carrie Gadd and Teresa Manning. Gadd led the Hornets with 14 points and Manning scored 11.
Jami Allred led the Lasers (11-5) with 20 points and six rebounds.
In the Desert tournament:
Santa Ana 94, Pasadena 63--Atari Parker had 28 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists as the Dons (14-2) won the championship game to cap the best preconference season in school history. Parker also had seven steals and five three-pointers and was named to the all-tournament team.
Lisa Arcangel scored 23 points and tournament MVP Stephanie Patten had 18 points and 18 rebounds for Santa Ana. Patten averaged 27 points and 17 rebounds in the tournament. Pasadena is 10-6.
Golden West 76, L.A. Southwest 70--Kelly Medlen (22 points) and Erin Arganda (16) led the Rustlers (13-2) in a consolation game.
In the Hancock men’s tournament:
Cerritos 59, Irvine Valley 51--Irvine Valley couldn’t make up a four-point halftime deficit in the title game. Ryan Ellis scored 19 points, making five of six three-pointers, for the Lasers (11-5).
In the San Diego Mesa tournament:
Orange Coast 71, San Diego Mesa 61--David Castleton scored 20 points to lead Orange Coast (11-4), which went on a 30-10 run in the last 12 minutes of the consolation final. Chad Hagedorn had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Pirates.
