Going From Brick House to Penthouse
Guard Eddie House, who was 0-for-16 shooting in Arizona State’s previous game against Brigham Young on Dec. 7, broke the school’s single-game scoring record Saturday with 46 points in a 99-85 victory over San Diego State at Tempe, Ariz.
House had 37 points--within two of his former career high--at halftime as he made 14 of 17 shots. In the second half, House was only four for 12, but made a three-point shot with 4:12 left to break the school record of 45 set by Paul Williams against USC on March 10, 1983. House took only one shot in the first 4:17 as San Diego State (2-4) took an 11-6 lead, but scored 20 points in the next nine minutes to give Arizona State (5-3) a 27-18 lead. House said he spent hours practicing by himself after his effort in a 78-67 loss at BYU.
“I’ve been struggling, and I’ve been praying,†said House, who was scoring six points a game less than the 18.9 he averaged last season. “He opened up that goal for me and took the lid off.â€
