* Re “Former UCLA Official Convicted of Stealing and Selling Painting,� Aug. 21: What is going on at UCLA? Once it was an illustrious citadel of culture and education. The scandal about football players illegally using parking spaces intended for the handicapped was bad enough. Then we read of a former director of student counseling convicted of stealing and selling a valuable painting. And the painting was used as a dart board by other members of the counseling department?

The barbarians are not at the gates. They have entered the sanctuary.
