Galaxy forward Carlos Hermosillo finds himself in a peculiar situation today, faced with playing for his club and against his club.

During the Major League Soccer season, Hermosillo plays for the Galaxy. When the MLS season ends, he rejoins Necaxa, his team in the Mexican league.

Tonight, however, the Galaxy and Necaxa square off at 7:30 at the Rose Bowl in a CONCACAF Champions Cup qualifier, with the winner advancing to the eight-team tournament, to be played in Las Vegas, Sept. 28-Oct. 3.

The winner of that event earns a trip to the inaugural FIFA World Club Championship in Brazil in January.

“There’s a lot of motivation,†Hermosillo said. “I can’t call them [Necaxa players] my former teammates because they’re still my teammates, but any time you’re wearing the opposing team’s uniform, you’re out there to win. And that’s what I’m going to be out there to do.â€

Hermosillo, 33, will be returning to the starting lineup after missing the Galaxy’s last five games because of a back injury.
