1 Killed, 2 Badly Hurt When Sedan Hits Tree
A Lake Forest man was killed and two others critically injured early Saturday morning in a car accident on Coast Highway in Laguna Beach.
The accident occurred when a white BMW traveling south on Coast Highway near Emerald Bay at an “extremely high rate†skidded across the lanes, said Sgt. Jim White of the Laguna Beach Police Department.
The car hit a curb and heavy brush before crashing into a tree off the roadway, White said.
Officers dispatched to the scene about 3:40 a.m. found the BMW sedan resting on its right side, against the tree.
Dead at the scene was front-seat passenger Morris Bubert, 35, of Lake Forest.
Driver Mark Mellor, 31, of Corona Hills was trapped in the car and was freed by firefighters.
Back-seat passenger Albert Caliguire, 38, of Newport Beach was thrown 50 feet from the car and was found lying in shrubbery.
The injured men were taken to Mission Hospital Trauma Center, where they were in critical condition, White said.
