Toddler Drowns in Family Swimming Pool
HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 16-month-old girl drowned early Wednesday in a swimming pool at her Huntington Beach home, police said.
A caretaker at the home, in the 16000 block of Niantic Circle, found the toddler in the pool about 10 a.m. and pulled her out while a baby-sitter called for help, police said.
Officers who first arrived tried to resuscitate the child, then turned their efforts over to paramedics. The toddler was taken to Huntington Beach Hospital, where she died about 11:30 a.m., Huntington Beach Police Lt. Luis Ochoa said.
Ochoa said the victim’s parents were at work and that the caretaker and the baby-sitter were the only adults present at the time.
Police are investigating to determine how the child fell into the fenced pool, he said, but they believe the drowning was accidental.
