Scott Ogilvie

Golden West, Sophomore

Soccer

Ogilvie, a middle blocker from La Quinta High, turned 20 Saturday but had something else to celebrate--a state title in men’s volleyball. Ogilvie had 29 kills and seven blocks as Golden West beat L.A. Pierce in five games to win its fifth consecutive state title. Ogilvie had 14 kills in a four-game semifinal victory over Grossmont.

Track and Field

Gomez, from Costa Mesa High, won two events and tied for first in another as the Pirates won the Orange Empire Conference team title. Gomez took first place in the 1,500 meters in 5 minutes 4.77 seconds and won the 5,000 in 19:17.6. She and three teammates crossed the finish line together in the 10,000 in 42.59.
