The City Council last week voted 4 to 1, with Mayor Gary Monahan voting no, to open up appointments to the Parks, Recreation Facilities and Parkways Commission to the public. The terms of three park commissioners expired March 31 and staff had asked council for direction on how to fill the vacancies. The three commissioners can be reappointed, but Councilwoman Linda Dixon said that although she thought they were doing a good job, the openings should be advertised to the public.
