Stuntman Held in Slaying of British Accountant

A film stuntman has been arrested by FBI agents in the kidnapping and slaying of a wealthy accountant in England, it was disclosed Tuesday.

Nevile Vandermerwe, 28, of Tarzana was taken into custody without incident Monday night.

Sought by British authorities for the last two years, the muscular South African native is being held without bail pending an extradition hearing. Vandermerwe and another man, now dead, were charged with abducting and killing Simon Law, who was involved in a business dispute with another South African, according to the warrant.

Law’s body was never recovered. He was reported missing April 22, 1991.

British investigators said that at the time of his disappearance, Law and his business partner, David Jenkins, were embroiled in a dispute over three companies they owned. The companies were being investigated in South Africa for alleged currency manipulations, and Jenkins blamed Law for the problems, according to the warrant.

English investigators said they learned that two strangers from South Africa had shown up in Elmsted about the time that Law disappeared. They identified one of them as Vandermerwe.
