Council OKs Funds for Six-Level Parking Garage
The City Council has approved spending about $2 million in a joint venture to build a six-level parking garage that will provide 125 more spaces for visitors to Old Pasadena.
Under a deal approved by the council late Monday, motorists visiting the Old Pasadena shopping district will be able to share parking at the proposed Courtyard by Marriott. The public will have access to two underground floors; hotel guests will use 274 spaces on floors above.
Although the shopping district has proved successful, Pasadena residents complain that they need more parking. Four parking structures now provide 2,500 spaces.
City officials said the joint project with Marriott, which plans to open a 314-room hotel on North Fair Oaks Avenue, will help solve the problem.
More than 200 public parking spaces are presently used by the Rusnak car dealership to store new vehicles and for employees to park.
The city is seeking to relocate Rusnak to a bigger facility.
