Oregon Loses Sirmon for Season

Oregon linebacker Peter Sirmon, the Pac-10’s leading tackler last season, is sidelined for the season after having surgery on his right shoulder. Sirmon, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound junior, had 115 tackles last season and 24 in Oregon’s first three games this year. . . . Randy McCown has earned the starting quarterback job after reviving No. 18 Texas A&M;’s struggling offense Saturday in the Aggies’ 28-9 victory over North Texas, Coach R.C. Slocum said. Branndon Stewart dueled with McCown for the starting job much of last season, but has struggled in the starting role this year. . . . Kentucky starting free safety Willie Gary will miss the rest of the season because of a torn knee ligament suffered in a loss at Florida.
