Broadway to Become a Two-Way Street

As part of a continuing effort to improve traffic flow in downtown Santa Monica, a one-way street will be switched to two-way traffic, officials said this week.
Broadway, which is now westbound only between Lincoln Boulevard and Ocean Avenue, will carry traffic in both directions beginning Wednesday, said city spokeswoman Judy Rambeau.
As a result, the city parking structure at the northeast corner of the Santa Monica Place mall at Broadway and 4th Street will be closed so its entrance and exit can be reconfigured. The structure will close after midnight tonight and reopen Oct. 5.
The change is part of the city’s Downtown Urban Design Plan, which is being implemented over the next five years; 5th Street was converted from one-way to two-way last November.
