Moorpark’s Hinojosa Plans to Play for Pepperdine
Damaris Hinojosa, The Times’ 1997-98 Ventura County girls’ basketball player of the year, has committed to Pepperdine.
The Moorpark High forward, who averaged 23 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 8.1 steals and 3.5 blocks, selected the Waves over UC Santa Barbara and UCLA, among other schools.
“I feel very comfortable with my decision,†said the 5-foot-10 Hinojosa, who is expected to play shooting guard. “I had known for quite a while that [Pepperdine] was where I wanted to go.â€
Hinojosa said she will officially commit to the Waves on Oct. 9, the first day high school seniors can sign a letter of intent.
FOOTBALL
Matador surgery: Cal State Northridge linebacker Cos Abercrombie has undergone surgery for a broken jaw sustained Saturday in the Matadors’ 41-10 victory at Northern Arizona.
Coach Ron Ponciano said Abercrombie is out five to six weeks and may take a medical redshirt.
Appeal denied: Birmingham High sophomore Chris Meyerson was denied a wavier by the CIF to play varsity football as a 14-year-old, Patriot Coach Dave Lertzman said.
