Council Postpones Vote on Colors of Homes
The South Gate City Council put off a vote to restrict the colors of homes and businesses and instructed its staff to study restrictions in other cities.
The council at its Tuesday meeting asked for proposals on separate color restrictions for businesses and residences. The council also asked for an incentive program to encourage merchants and homeowners to repaint brightly colored properties.
The council asked the report be completed within 60 days.
Although several merchants and business owners had previously criticized the proposal, no one from the public spoke at the council hearing.
Mayor Henry Gonzalez raised the proposal after several complaints from residents about the garish paint on several businesses and homes around the city.
