Stadium Committee Schedules 2 Meetings
An advisory committee considering where to build a new football stadium for CSUN will meet again on Thursday and then possibly for the last time Oct. 1.
The location of the meetings was changed last week, said a university official. Both the Thursday and October meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Athletics Department Conference Room at CSUN, 18111 Nordhoff St.
Originally scheduled to have its recommendation by Dec. 1, the Athletics Facilities Siting Advisory Committee could report to CSUN President Blenda J. Wilson as early as the October meeting, said university spokesman John Chandler.
The advisory committee is reportedly considering four sites for the stadium: Pierce College in Woodland Hills, College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Valley College in Valley Glen and Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, CSUN officials said.
As part of its contract with the Big Sky Conference, CSUN must expand its existing football stadium capacity to 15,000. The existing stadium holds 6,000.
The 12-person advisory committee, named by Wilson, has been meeting since the middle of August. The committee is made up of university officials, local business owners and members of homeowner groups who oppose a building larger stadium near their homes.
