State Grant to Help Renovate School Pool

An ambitious campaign to put the water back in Huntington Beach High School’s swimming pool moved forward this month with a $100,000 state grant.
Assemblyman Scott Baugh, who helped launch the $600,000-drive last December, told the high school’s foundation the grant was approved as part of the state budget last month, according to Tom Shaw, the foundation’s vice president.
The Huntington Beach Union High School District de-commissioned the outdoor pool in 1992 because of budget constraints, Shaw said.
The Take-the-Plunge campaign raised $180,000 so far, enough to begin planning for the renovation.
Once open, the pool will be used by both students and residents, he added.
Donations may be sent to: Take-the-Plunge/Huntington Beach High School Foundation, 1905 Main St. Huntington Beach, CA 92648.
