In other nonleague openers:
St. Francis 29, Arcadia 25--Murice Law ran six yards for a touchdown with 2:36 to play for the Golden Knights, who scored 15 points in 24 seconds to overcome a 25-14 deficit.
Law’s score came three plays after Joey Stanislawski recovered Denis O’Brien’s onside kick at the Apaches’ 39-yard line.
Sophomore quarterback John Sciarra began the winning drive with an 18-yard passto Kenny Garcia. An illegal procedure penalty moved the ball to the Apaches’ 26-yard line, where Sciarra hit Michael John with a 20-yard pass to set the stage for Law’s winning run.
Arcadia took an 18-14 lead on the opening drive of the second half, marching 64 yards in five plays, culminating with Quincy Williams’ 38-yard touchdown run. Arcadia increased its lead to 25-14 on Williams’ three-yard run with 7:59 to play.
St. Francis led, 14-12, at halftime on Law’s 97-yard kickoff return and guard Luis Guerrero’s 46-yard run off a fumblerooski.
Sciarra, son of former UCLA quarterback John Sciarra, completed nine of 13 for 162 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Terrazone. Sciarra threw one interception.
