Hospital Fires 2 Over Baby Nursing Mix-Up
From Times Wire Reports
Two nurses at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, Mass., have been fired after a mother was given the wrong baby to nurse. Two other employees were suspended after a hospital investigation into the Aug. 17 incident. The hospital said it offered both families counseling and testing, as viruses can be transmitted through breast milk. The fired employees, who were not named, were a nurse manager and a staff nurse, officials said. A nurse’s aide and another registered nurse were suspended for two weeks without pay and demoted.
