Effects of Proposed LAX Expansion to Be Discussed

City Council members on Tuesday will discuss the effects that the proposed expansion of Los Angeles International Airport would have on Culver City, officials said.
“After Westchester and El Segundo, [Culver City] is probably the most affected city,” Mark Winogrond, director of community development, said of the proposed airport development. “We’re already seeing a dramatic increase in the number of flyovers.”
Culver City streets would also be affected by the proposed increase in passengers and cargo handled by the airport, he said.
The controversial expansion plan would nearly double the number of passengers traveling through the airport and triple the cargo handling facilities there by 2020.
City staff have urged the council to adopt a “resolution of concern” about the airport’s expansion plans.
El Segundo Mayor Mike Gordon will make a presentation at the council meeting about his city’s opposition to the expansion.
The public may also comment during the meeting, which will be at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 9770 Culver Blvd.
