Big Decision Day Arrives

Taking another step toward the season opener next Saturday, UCLA on Thursday went through the second of three scrimmages and prepared to make today what will probably be final decisions on some still-contested starting jobs.
The release of the new depth chart will allow the starters a week to practice together before the Texas game. It will also offer an indication, though not a final decision, as to which players will eventually be redshirted.
“Starting tomorrow, it’s when guys get frowns,” Coach Bob Toledo said after the scrimmage at the Rose Bowl. “It’s when the scout teams come out.”
And the starters in the positions that remain open, specifically tailback, free safety and at least two of the four linebacker spots, where nagging injuries could also be a factor.
