In another Pacific View League game:
Channel Islands 25, Oxnard 14--Channel Islands held four different times inside its own five-yard line as the visiting Raiders earned their first victory.
Oxnard’s Robert Kinkle caught a four-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter to pull the Yellowjackets within 19-6.
Oxnard (1-7, 0-3) was stopped on its next two possessions--both deep in Channel Islands territory. A fourth-and-goal pass was dropped in the end zone and Channel Islands’ Manny Cervantes intercepted a pass at the four-yard line midway through the fourth quarter.
Russell Patton, who had been held to only 42 yards, broke free two plays after the interception, sprinting 61 yards down the left sideline for a touchdown. He finished with 109 yards in 18 carries.
Channel Islands (1-6-1, 1-1) scored on its first two possessions to take a 13-0 lead. The Raiders added to their advantage in the second period on a one-yard scoring run by Patton that was set up by B.J. Capili’s blocked punt.
Channel Islands ended the half by stopping Kinkle at the one-yard line as time expired.
Louis Williams completed 17 of 35 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns for Oxnard. Neal caught eight passes for 117 yards.
Oxnard’s other quarterback, Matthew Merricks, injured his right ankle late in the first half and did not return.
