Sylmar 21, Canoga Park 7--Sylmar’s Corey Neal rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns in 17 carries before leaving because of a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter at Sylmar.
After a scoreless first quarter, Sylmar (5-2-1, 5-0) took possession on the Canoga Park 10-yard line after a snap sailed over punter Jesus Navarro’s head. Three plays later, Neal ran one yard to give the Spartans a 7-0 lead.
Sylmar took a 21-0 lead on consecutive third-quarter possessions that culminated with touchdown runs of 17 and 14 yards by Neal.
Canoga Park (2-6, 0-5) scored on its next possession when Mike Spagnle threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Victor Torres.
Torres had nine catches for 198 yards.
Neal, who has rushed for 647 yards and 15 touchdowns, left with 10 minutes to play after being injured on a seven-yard gain.
He remained on the sideline with his arm bandaged.
In the first quarter, Sylmar tight end George Wrightster left with a foot injury and did not return.
