Halloween Happenings
Here are some highlights of community Halloween and fall events taking place today:
BREA
A safe trick-or-treat event is planned at the Brea Mall. Most of the 175 stores will hand out candy to kids of all ages beginning at 3 p.m. and ending when supplies run out.
CYPRESS
The city’s Halloween Carnival takes place 5-8:30 p.m. at the Cypress Community Center, 5700 Orange Ave. Includes carnival games, food and puppet show. Admission, $1. Information: (714) 229-6780.
DANA POINT
Palisades Elementary School PTA holds a fund-raising carnival on campus, 26462 Via Sacramento, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be games, bounce house, drawing and a haunted house. Tickets are 25 cents per activity.
FULLERTON
Incahoots Dance Hall and Saloon, 1401 S. Lemon Ave., holds a free haunted house in addition to the usual dancing and food. Families invited to haunted house, 2-5 p.m, when club is open to all ages. Tonight club’s audience is restricted to 21 and older, with hours 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Information: (714) 441-0984.
GARDEN GROVE
* Garden Grove United Methodist Church hosts its Family Halloween Party, 12741 Main St., 6-7:30 p.m. Pumpkin-carving contest, costume parade, prizes, dinner for a buck, and trick-or-treat safety offered. Each family asked to bring one unopened bag of treats and $1 donation per child. Information: (714) 534-1070.
* Sixth annual Community Harvest Fest will be 6-8:30 p.m. at Garden Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 8782 Lampson Ave. Free event includes carnival-type games, face painting, clowns and children’s entertainment. Bring canned food item for five extra game tickets. Information: (714) 636-9320.
IRVINE
Various shopping centers throughout the city will provide trick-or-treaters surprises, 3:30-5 p.m. They include Alton Square, Campus Plaza, The Crossroads, Culver Plaza, Harvard Place, University Center, Parkview Center, University Park, Walnut Village Center, Westpark Plaza and Woodbridge Village Center. University Center will also feature a costume contest for all ages, near Z Pizza.
LA HABRA
Temple Baptist Church’s Harvest Festival takes place 6-9 p.m. at church fellowship hall and parking lot, 222 N. Euclid St. Festivities include costume parade with prizes, games and snacks. Free admission. Information: (714) 871-4183.
LA PALMA
City’s 27th annual Halloween Carnival occurs 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Central Park, 7821 Walker St. Free, but participants are asked to bring a canned or boxed food item for distribution to needy families. Events include free carnival games, costume contests, a “Goblin Gulch†area for children under 5 and food sales by community organizations. Information: (714) 522-6740.
LAGUNA HILLS
The Parks and Recreation Department presents “A Ghostly Affair†noon-2 p.m. at City Hall. Costume party is for children 2-6, costs $10 and requires advance registration. Event includes costume parade, lunch, games and prizes. Parents can pay by phone with a credit card or at City Hall, 25201 Paseo de Alicia, Suite 150. Information: (949) 707-2600.
LAGUNA NIGUEL
Parks and Recreation Department hosts a haunted house at 27792 El Lazo Road, behind City Hall. Recommended for ages 8 and older; admission $5. Special session for children ages 5-8 will be 5-7 p.m. Regular sessions 8-10:30 tonight. Information: (949) 362-4350.
MISSION VIEJO
Saddleback Symphony Orchestra presents a free Halloween concert at 8 p.m. in the McKinney Theatre at Saddleback College, 28000 Marguerite Parkway. Director Carmen Cortez Dominguez leads the orchestra in dark classics such as “Night on Bald Mountain†and “Danse Infernal†from “The Firebird.†Information: (949) 582-4327.
PLACENTIA
Halloween fun at Whitten Community Center, 900 S. Melrose St., 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; pumpkin carving contest, pinata and games. Trick-or-treating to Brea Mall, 2-5 p.m. (transportation provided, parent release required). Information: (714) 630-1172.
SANTA ANA
“Tales From the Tomb†tour of Santa Ana Cemetery takes place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tickets available at Dr. Howe-Waffle House, 120 Civic Center Drive West, $8-$10. Information: (714) 547-9645.
SAN CLEMENTE
Pacific Coast Church hosts a “Fall Fling†5:30-9 p.m., 2651 Calle Frontera; carnival games, candy prizes, virtual surfing, laser tag and 22-foot slide. Organizers request no scary or gory costumes. Tickets are 25 cents per activity.
SEAL BEACH
City Recreation Department has a haunted house at 310 Ocean Ave. 5:30-8 p.m. Features include graveyard scene, mad scientist, polka dot room and three surprises. Free.
TUSTIN
Third annual Tiller Trick or Treat at Tustin High School, 1171 El Camino Real, will be 5-8 p.m. for students from Beswick, Estock, Heideman, Lambert, Nelson, Thorman, Tustin Ranch and Veeh elementary schools; must be accompanied by an adult. The event, hosted by about 100 costumed high school students, includes trick-or-treating from classroom to classroom. Information: (714) 730-7430.
YORBA LINDA
Celebrate Halloween with a parade, helicopters, police K-9 dogs and live music at the 31st annual Fiesta Days Parade and Street Faire in Yorba Linda.
* The Yorba Linda Service League’s parade will start at 10 a.m. on Casa Loma Avenue and end on Yorba Linda Boulevard at Mountain View Avenue.
* The Street Faire, including a costume contest, will be in the parking lot of the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace until 3 p.m. During the fair, Yorba Linda residents will be admitted to the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace for free.
* St. Martin’s Mortuary of Madness will be open for business at St. Martin de Porres Church, 19791 Yorba Linda Blvd. Donations of $3 are requested for tours of the place “people are dying to get into.†The mortuary is at the church’s old rectory, and will be open from 7-11:30 p.m.
