Pairings Drawn for Basketball Tournament
The pairings of the first Edison International Holiday boys’ basketball tournament, which will feature 16 Orange County teams and be played at the Anaheim Convention Center, were drawn Thursday.
The tournament will benefit the Anaheim Prep Sports/Activities Foundation. Tom Danley, who is Katella High’s athletic director, is the director of the foundation, which is set up to keep students away from “drugs, gangs and guns.â€
The pairings for the Dec. 8-12 tournament:
Dec. 8--Villa Park vs. Western, 3 p.m.; Sonora vs. Brea Olinda, 4:40 p.m.; Katella vs. Magnolia, 6:20 p.m.; Los Alamitos vs. Kennedy, 8 p.m.
Dec. 9--Newport Harbor vs. Canyon, 3 p.m.; Tustin vs. Cypress, 4:40 p.m.; Servite vs. Trabuco Hills, 6:20 p.m.; El Toro vs. Capistrano Valley, 8 p.m.

Eryn Manahan and Lauren Schwendimann, both softball players at Foothill High, have made oral commitments to four-year colleges, according to Coach Joe Gonzalez.
Manahan, a second baseman who hit .345 and scored 30 runs last season, is headed to California. Schwendimann, a pitcher who was 10-2 with 120 strikeouts, is going to Northwestern.

Kristen Gundersen, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Laguna Beach High, has made an oral commitment to play volleyball for William & Mary, her club coach Michael Soylular said.
