School Booster Group Declared Nonprofit

An Oak Park school district booster organization has been granted nonprofit status, a designation that officials say will allow the group to provide additional financial support for educational programs.
As a nonprofit group, the Oak Park Education Foundation will be able to raise money for the school district tax-free, foundation officials said.
The group’s long-term goal is to create a permanent endowment fund largely through corporate donations, officials said.
Also, the foundation has established a grant-writing committee that will seek federal, state and private grants. The committee is working on an application for a $12,000 grant that would pay for math and science programs at Oak Park High School.
The foundation is governed by a 20-member board of directors that meets in public about once a month at the Oak Park Unified School District’s office at 899 N. Kanan Road.
