Ex-Mayor McGowan Rejoins Council Race

Retired airline captain and former Mayor Robert E. McGowan has decided to rejoin the race for a seat on the City Council.
Last month, McGowan announced he would withdraw from the Nov. 3 election for personal reasons, including adoption of a daughter. The decision came too late, however, for his name to be removed from the ballot.
McGowan said this week that he revoked his withdrawal after reevaluating his personal situation and after hearing from residents urging him to reconsider.
McGowan, 62, will appear with five other candidates on the ballot, including one incumbent, running for three open seats.
McGowan supports conversion of El Toro into a commercial airport and has vowed to restore confidence in city government, promote volunteerism and restore independence to the community access cable television channel.
