2 O.C. Hospitals Among 8 Being Acquired
Catholic Healthcare West of San Francisco said Friday that it plans to buy Burbank-based Unihealth’s network of eight Southern California hospitals, including two in Orange County.
An official at the nonprofit Unihealth said the deal gives its hospitals the chance to join with a larger nonprofit organization in negotiating for business with managed-care companies. The group includes the 139-bed La Palma Intercommunity Hospital and the 205-bed Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim.
Contract terms are still being negotiated.
Beth O’Brien, chief executive of Unihealth’s Southern California region, said there are no plans to close any hospitals. Catholic Healthcare West owns 40 hospitals in California, Arizona and Nevada.
