Ventura 20, Rio Mesa 19--Ventura (2-2) stopped a conversion run after a one-yard touchdown plunge by Pancho Tinoco pulled Rio Mesa (1-3) within one point with 4:41 remaining at Ventura.
Ventura’s Mike Anderson completed six of 16 passes for 157 yards and two third-quarter touchdowns, and rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown in eight carries.
Rio Mesa used a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Steven Quails and a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Tom Saxey to stay close.
