Scholarship Winners to Give Free Concert

Members of the 31st District Parent Teacher Student Assn. will showcase at a free concert tonight the talented musicians chosen this year to receive Clarice Chaplin Music Scholarships.

The 14 students from local middle and high schools will perform at 7 p.m. at Parkman Middle School, 20800 Burbank Blvd.

Students from about 20 schools auditioned in April to receive the $150 scholarships.

The middle school winners were Edward Cho, a violinist and eighth-grader from Porter Middle School; Janet Kang, a viola player and sixth-grader from Porter Middle School; Kristen Kang, a drummer and seventh-grader from Millikan Performing Arts Magnet School; Teresa Liu, an oboe player and seventh-grader from Portola Highly Gifted Magnet School; Justin Skomarovsky, an alto sax player and eighth-grader from Portola Middle School; Dominic Thiroux, a vocalist and sixth-grader from Lawrence Middle School; Karen Vuong, a vocalist and eighth-grader from Portola Middle School; Qing Wang, a pianist and seventh-grader from Portola Middle School, and Alberta Yen, a flutist and seventh-grader from Portola Middle School.

The high school winners were Daniel Chang, a French horn player and freshman at Granada Hills High School; Chrissy Choi, a flutist and sophomore at Chatsworth High School; Raymond Chung, a pianist and junior from Chatsworth High School; Timothy Dueppen, a trombone player and freshman at Taft High School, and Danielle Salyer, an oboe player and junior from the Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies.
