Alomar, Palmeiro on Block
Roberto Alomar and Rafael Palmeiro may be traded by the Baltimore Orioles, perhaps within a week, according to a report in today’s editions of the Washington Post.
“We’ve talked to some clubs. We’re looking around,†said Kevin Malone, the Orioles’ assistant general manager.
Alomar, in the final season of an $18-million, three-year contract, is one of the team’s younger players at 30. Palmeiro, 33, is in the final season of a $30-million, five-year deal. Both are eligible for free agency after this season.
According to the Post, the New York Mets would be willing to trade first baseman John Olerud and second baseman Carlos Baerga for the pair.
