It’s no surprise that this former Beastie Boys keyboardist is adept at percolating sonic pastiches and groovy blasts of low-fidelity funk. On his second solo effort, however, Mark has developed real singer-songwriterly skills. Occasionally the stylistic switchbacks are too dizzying, but he’s close to doing with “Superfly,” Squeeze and Bacharach what Beck did with Dylan.
