Esperanza Student Proves Top Debater

Speaking on such topics as the benefits of having a multiparty system in the United States, Esperanza High School senior Simon Kim, 17, took top debating honors at the Junior Statesmen of America Spring State Convention in Los Angeles.
More than 1,000 high school students from California attended the convention, which features debates on topics dealing with the country’s democratic principles and ideals.
Kim, who is active with his campus newspaper, speech and debate club, and student council, was accepted to West Point and hopes to become a physician.
