The California Highway Patrol will be out in full force from 6 p.m. today through midnight Monday searching for drunk drivers and speeders over Memorial Day Weekend, officers said.
There will also be a joint CHP-Santa Paula Police Department sobriety checkpoint in Santa Paula on Saturday night.
During last year’s holiday weekend, CHP officers arrested 33 people in Ventura County for driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, there were 24 collisions and 14 people were injured.
CHP Officer Dave Cockrill recommended that holiday drivers leave early if they are going out of town, take regular rest breaks and share driving responsibilities. In heavy traffic, drive less than the posted speed limit, he added.
