Candidates for City Manager to Make Council Presentations

Former Pasadena Mayor Rick Cole and Alhambra Deputy City Manager Vangie Schock are vying to become the city’s top administrator, officials said Tuesday.

Next Tuesday, they will give a presentation to the City Council behind closed doors on their vision of the future of Azusa, said Councilman Dick Stanford.

Stanford said council members expect to make an appointment by the beginning of June. “Both of them bring a wealth of experience,†he said.

Cole, 44, the Southern California director of the Local Government Commission, was a Pasadena City Council member from 1983 to 1995 and is credited with crafting Old Pasadena and other efforts to revitalize the city landscape.

“Azusa has unique potential for becoming a centerpiece in the San Gabriel Valley and I am honored for being considered to have part in that revitalization,†Cole said.

Schock, 45, has served as the No. 2 official in the city of Alhambra for nearly six years. “I have 14 years of experience in local government. This is next logical step,â€
