Moorpark’s best: Women’s volleyball player Michelle Capuano and wrestler Ati Conner have been selected Moorpark College’s 1997-98 athletes of the year and women’s tennis player AnneMarie Batur and football player James Ange were selected the school’s student-athletes of the year.
BASEBALL
Big wigs: Three former Cal State Northridge players were selected first-team All-Big West. Pitchers Benito Flores and Erasmo Ramirez of Cal State Fullerton and outfielder Terrmel Sledge of Long Beach State earned honors. Flores was chosen the Big West pitcher of the year.
Former El Camino Real infielder Justin Martin of Nevada and former Chatsworth infielder Bryan LaCour of UC Santa Barbara were on the second team.
More big wigs: Former Hart High outfielder Brian Baron, a sophomore at Northwestern, was selected second-team All-Big Ten. He batted .349.
VOLLEYBALL
East Valley talents: Ervin Gonzalez of Sylmar and Gilbert Ramos of Poly are co-players of the year in the East Valley League. Gonzalez is a senior outside hitter and Ramos is a senior outside hitter-setter.
