GREEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. — A 12-year-old boy fell to his death at a waterfall Thursday while hiking in the San Bernardino Mountains, authorities said.
The boy was hiking with about 30 campers and counselors when he fell 300 feet, said Doug Crawford, a spokesman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Another boy and a counselor also fell and were injured, he said.
Snow covered the ground and temperatures were in the low 30s. Rescue crews hiked down to the accident site because rough terrain prevented a helicopter from getting in.
Green Valley Lake is a small mountain community between Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake.
