Nordhoff Has Control of Frontier Golf
Nordhoff High is threatening to end Calabasas’ six-year hold on the Frontier League golf title after shooting seven-over-par 367 Tuesday at Olivas Park Golf Course in the third of four league matches, and maintaining a 1,113-1,115 lead for the season.
Calabasas also shot 367, setting up the final round today at Elkins Ranch Golf Course in Fillmore.
Shawn Andrews and Tommy Hajduk of Nordhoff and defending league individual champion Jon Ohye and Travis Corby of Calabasas all shot even-par 72.
Aaron Levine shot 73 for Calabasas and Justin Ohye had a 74. Jeff Coburn fired a 73 for Nordhoff.
Coburn leads the individual standings with 212, followed by Justin Ohye at 213, Jon Ohye at 214 and Andrews at 217.
The top two teams will qualify for the Southern Section team championships and the top two individuals will go to the Southern Section individual championships.
In another golf match:
Marmonte League match #3--Defending league champion J.T. Kohut of Westlake shot a two-over-par 73 at Simi Hills Golf Course to move six strokes ahead of Roy Moon of Royal in the league standings.
Kohut has a score of 215 with one match remaining. Moon, who is at 221, shot a 79.
Doug Miller of Westlake, who shot a 74, stands one stroke behind Moon.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Loyola d. Chaminade, 15-3, 15-12, 15-6--Dave Honda had 22 assists and 11 digs, and Justin Beach had 11 digs for the Eagles (5-6, 3-7) in a Mission League defeat at Chaminade.
Alemany d. St. Francis, 15-6, 5-15, 16-14, 15-8--Jeff Bordey had 15 kills and four aces, and Sean Bottcher added 15 kills and seven blocks for the Golden Knights (8-9, 2-9) in a Mission League defeat at St. Francis.
Hart d. Valencia, 15-11, 15-11, 15-4--Kevin Dalton had nine kills and six blocks, and Bryan Sanders had six blocks for the Indians (2-12, 2-6) in a Foothill League victory at Valencia.
Moorpark d. Carpinteria, 15-11, 16-14, 9-15, 15-5--Shaun Corby had 37 kills and six aces, and Dan Duffy had 13 blocks for the Musketeers (10-5, 8-2) in a Frontier League victory at Moorpark.
BASEBALL
Oxnard 6, Hueneme 4--The Yellowjackets scored two runs in the eighth inning to win a Channel League game that was delayed more than an hour by rain at Hueneme.
John Fleener hit a run-scoring double and Mario Castro added a run-scoring single in the eighth for Oxnard (9-8, 3-6-1). Castro had three hits.
Jason Austin had a run-scoring triple and Rigo Garcia a run-scoring single for Hueneme (13-9, 5-5), which scored all its runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 4-0 deficit.
