Meat Market Fire Causes $6,000 Damage
A faulty fat fryer ignited a fire at an Oxnard meat market early Tuesday, causing $6,000 in damage.
The blaze began at the Colima Market on the 2700 block of Vineyard Avenue about 2:30 a.m. It destroyed a large amount of food and kitchen equipment, but did not damage the building, fire officials said. Investigators determined that a malfunctioning timer on the fryer sparked the blaze.
No one was in the market at the time and no injuries were reported, according to fire officials. Firefighters put the blaze out in about half an hour.
