The Long Beach StingRays will have the seventh, 33rd, 39th and 49th picks in today’s ABL draft, after giving up the third and 19th overall picks to New England for a backup guard Monday.
Long Beach acquired Deanna Tate, 31, who backed up Blizzard guards Jen Rizzotti and Carolyn Jones last season. She is expected to back up StingRay starters Andrea Nagy and Beverly Williams next season.
“We felt we needed another veteran guard and Deanna gives us that,” Coach Maura McHugh said.
“She’s an excellent defender who can play both the point and two-guard positions.”
First-round draft order: Portland, Philadelphia, New England, Nashville, Colorado, San Jose, Long Beach, Portland, Chicago and Columbus.
