Tony Perez of Santa Ana High defeated Michael Roberts of North Carolina to win the 103-pound title in the National High School Championships Saturday at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Santa Ana Coach Scott Glabb said. Perez, who had two pins during the two-day meet, beat Roberts, 6-2.
In the same meet, Calvary Chapel’s Mike Bigrigg finished second after losing to Utah state champion Justin Ruiz, 4-3, at 189 pounds in the final.
Bigrigg’s teammate Josh Saul (215 pounds) finished sixth. The National High School Championships are reserved for high school seniors.
