Eulalia Jeanne Moore; Artist, Oxnard Resident
Artist and longtime Oxnard resident Eulalia Jeanne Moore died of cancer Friday. She was 76.
Born July 5, 1921, in Holton, Kan., Moore moved to Ventura County as a young girl. Her mother opened a hair salon in Oxnard called Cut and Curl. She attended Oxnard High School and Fillmore High School, and graduated from Fillmore High in 1938, said her daughter, Lauren Webb.
She married Laurence H. “Buck†Moore a year after she graduated, and the two stayed together 58 years, until her death.
Apart from raising two daughters and two sons, Moore devoted herself to painting, her daughter said.
“She was a lover of the arts, antiques and beautiful things,†her daughter said.
Moore was known for her abstract watercolors, and she often did portraits of friends. A painting that she completed depicting the Last Supper was donated to the First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard. She was a member of the Oxnard Art Club, the National Watercolor Society and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
Later in life Moore became interested in antiques. For a time she operated Le Garage, an antiques store in Ventura, and she joined a cooperative in Ojai called the Antique Collection.
In addition to her husband, Moore is survived by two daughters, Troy Moore de Villalobos and Lauren Webb of Berkeley; two sons, Job Moore of Los Gatos and Rich Moore of South Pasadena; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard.
