Not Guilty Plea Entered in Bombing
A Costa Mesa car painter accused of sending a mail bomb to a prostitute who allegedly turned down his affections pleaded not guilty in federal court Monday to felony bombing charges.
A federal grand jury last week indicted Darryl Anthony Carr, 34, on four felony charges stemming from a Feb. 6 blast in Santa Ana that seriously injured the roommate of the intended victim.
The package exploded when the roommate, Peter Marshall, opened it. He suffered severe injuries to his hand, arm and abdomen and remains in serious condition at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
Authorities said they tailed Carr on Feb. 7 and caught him dumping a piece of steel pipe that matched the one used in the bombing.
Carr’s next court appearance is set for May 19. If convicted, he faces a mandatory 40-year prison sentence.
