Martini Homers Again as Ocean View Stops Tustin
Jason Martini hit a two-run homer in the first inning, his fifth home run in his last six at-bats, to lead Ocean View to 4-0 victory over sixth-ranked Tustin in a Golden West League baseball game Friday at Windrow Park.
Pete Montreras (4-0) held Tustin to three hits, striking out eight and walking one, for the Seahawks (4-3, 2-0). Jason Miller added a solo homer in the fifth off losing pitcher Chad Chop (3-1).
In other Golden West League games:
No. 5 Servite 10, Saddleback 0--Brian Wolfe, who had a perfect game until the sixth inning, finished with a one-hitter but faced the minimum 21 batters. Ryan Garko had two doubles and two RBIs and David Fischer had two hits and three RBIs for the Friars (6-1, 2-0).
Westminster 11, Santa Ana 1 (5, mercy)--Matt Poling, Chris Balogh and Ricky Guerrero each had two hits and two RBIs for Westminster (6-3, 1-1).
In the Century League:
Orange 5, El Modena 4--Evan Gramley had a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to give Orange a 5-3 lead. Gramley had two hits and a run scored.
Pitcher Brett Sewell pitched a five-hitter for Orange (3-7, 1-2). El Modena is 4-5, 1-2.
In the Empire League:
Cypress 4, Kennedy 1--Rob Rafelson hit a home run to help Cypress defeat host Kennedy. Both teams are 5-5, 1-2.
Katella 7, Loara 1--Mike Martinez, Tony Alcantar and T.J. Jara hit consecutive home runs in the fourth inning for Katella (6-4, 3-0). Scott Fraser (2-1) threw a three-hitter, striking out six and walking one for the Knights. Fraser had two hits and three RBIs.
In the Freeway League:
Sonora 9, Sunny Hills 2--Chad Burleson had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for Sunny Hills (3-6, 2-1).
Troy 7, No. 9 Fullerton 6--Todd Frazier had three hits and three RBIs and Steve Muther (2-1) pitched a complete game in the upset for Troy (3-6, 1-1). Fullerton falls to 7-2, 2-1.
In the Garden Grove League:
Bolsa Grande 9, Los Amigos 2--Miguel Guadarraman (1-1) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, earning the victory for Bolsa Grande (2-6, 1-0). Bernardo Rodriguez was two for three with a double and two RBIs.
La Quinta 5, Pacifica 1--Junior left-hander Steve Lee pitched a four-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks. Gerald Laird was two for two with three runs scored and two RBIs. He hit his third home run of the season. Bobby Crosby hit a home run, his second of the season.
Rancho Alamitos 9, Santiago 8 (8)--Tony Serna’s game-winning home run in the top of the eighth also earned him a victory in relief. It was the eighth home run of the season for Serna, who played catcher the first six innings before taking the mound in the seventh. Rancho Alamitos is 5-4, 1-0.
In the Olympic League:
Calvary Chapel 12, Whittier Christian 2--Mike Molina was three for three with two RBIs and Brett Young (2-0) pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts for host Calvary Chapel (5-3, 3-0). Whittier Christian is 4-4, 2-1.
In the Orange League:
Western 1, Brea Olinda 1 (8, darkness)--With two outs and runners on first and third, Brea Olinda’s Ron Benigno grounded out to second base and the game was called because of darkness. Pitcher Scott Davis had seven strikeouts in seven innings for Brea Olinda (5-3-1, 1-0-1).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Aliso Niguel 12, Estancia 2 (6, mercy)--Senior left-hander Justin Tanos gave up one hit in five innings for Aliso Niguel (7-3, 3-0).
Laguna Hills 17, Laguna Beach 4 (5, mercy)--Jeremy Miller had three hits, including two home runs, three runs scored and seven RBIs for visiting Laguna Hills (7-4, 3-0). Teammate Ryan Johnson also had two home runs and four RBIs.
Kevin McCaffrey had three hits and three runs scored for Laguna Hills.
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 5, Newport Harbor 3--David Reyes and Bobby Pearce combined on a four-hitter for El Toro (7-3, 2-1). Darron Ohwiler hit a home run in the second inning for the host Chargers. Newport Harbor is 0-2 in league.
Santa Margarita 9, Irvine 4--Catcher Casey Grzecka threw out three runners for host Santa Margarita (7-2, 2-0). Jeff Larue had two doubles and two RBIs, and Jeff Kuno was three for four with three RBIs.
In the Sunset League:
Huntington Beach 2, Esperanza 1--Nate Buecler of Huntington Beach hit the game-winning home run in the third inning and pitched a complete game, giving up four hits. Buecler had six strikeouts and two walks. Ryan Hubbard had two hits, including a first-inning home run, for Huntington Beach (5-3, 2-1).
Marina 4, Los Alamitos 3--Trevor Bond hit a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to win the game for Marina (3-6, 1-1). Brad Cloud hit his first home run of the season for the Vikings.
