Task Force Formed to Probe Bombings
Authorities have formed a regional task force to investigate a series of bombings in the Southeast over the last two years. The task force will pool the resources of the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms with state and local law enforcement agencies in Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina. The task force is searching for Eric Robert Rudolph, a North Carolina carpenter suspected in a Jan. 29 bombing of a Birmingham abortion clinic that killed an off-duty police officer. Also under investigation are four bombings in Atlanta, including a July 1996 pipe bomb attack at Centennial Olympic Park during the Olympic Games.
