Panel Studying Leaf-Blower Ban Gets Demonstration of Models
The city’s Housing and Neighborhoods Committee, which is considering whether to ban gasoline-powered leaf blowers in Long Beach, met Tuesday to see demonstrations of five models.
The city has received 1,700 signatures supporting a ban and 30 signatures opposing one. Diana Mann, of Residents for Less Pollution in Long Beach, says leaf blowers are noisy, harmful to people with respiratory problems and ineffective.
The committee, chaired by Councilman Alan Lowenthal, took no action. Los Angeles’ ban on gasoline-powered leaf blowers went into effect Feb. 13.
