The city’s Family and Youth Center has won a 1997 California Parks and Recreation Society award.
The center, at 14722 Newport Ave., was a dilapidated, abandoned retail building before being remodeled.
The refurbishment involved using oversized decorative columns, lively colors and interesting shapes to make the building attractive and fun for children.
The award will be presented Saturday at the California Parks and Recreation Society’s annual conference in Long Beach.
