Ryan Moore had three hits, a run scored and three runs batted in as Cal State Fullerton defeated UC Santa Barbara, 9-3, in the Big West Conference baseball opener Friday at Titan Field. Kevin Duck and Chris Beck each had two runs scored for the Titans (12-6, 1-0).

Designated hitter Greg Jacobs had two hits and three runs scored for the Titans. Right fielder Aaron Rowand left the game in the seventh inning when he collided with second baseman David Bacani.

UC Santa Barbara is 5-8-2, 0-1 in conference.

In the Golden State Athletic Conference:

Point Loma Nazarene 13, Southern California College 3--Marques Esquerra had four hits and three runs for Point Loma (12-6), which won its fourth consecutive game. James Anderson had 13 strikeouts in complete game victory for the Crusaders (12-6 overall).

Bryan Chambers, James Dent and Greg Schrieber each had two hits for SCC (12-6).

At the Southern California Intercollegiate Golf Championship:

UC Irvine fifth after first round--UC Irvine’s Kevin Stevens shot a three-over par 75 to take a share of the lead with three other players after the first round at Torrey Pines, par 72. Three players are tied at 77 and five are at 78. One of those players at 78 is Anteater teammate Andrew Wen.

The Anteaters are fifth in the university division with 326 strokes. UC Davis leads with 311.

Chapman in fifth place--Chapman’s Sean St. Clair tied John Holmes of Cal Baptist with a score 78 for a share of the lead in the college division after the first round at Torrey Pines.

Chapman is in fifth place with 338 strokes. UC San Diego leads with 322.

In UC Santa Barbara women’s gymnastics invitational:

CS Fullerton places third--Christy Lutz won the balance beam (9.6) and Natalia Acosta tied for first in the floor exercise (9.275) to help Fullerton finish third in the team competition.
