The city of Moorpark is looking for applicants for its Teen Council, a group that helps recreation officials plan teen programs.

The city will fill three positions on the nine-member council. The three-month terms will end in June.

The group, which meets once or twice a month, has helped organize the teen Music Festival and parts of the city’s popular Country Days and is currently pushing for a skating park.

“We’re looking for teens who are interested in the community and want to become more active in it,†said Shelly Shellabarger of the Parks and Recreation Commission. “It’s also life experience, because there are certain things you need to know in order to succeed and what we’re doing is preparing them for the future.â€

The group is currently picking summer field trips.

Seventh- through 12th-graders must return applications to the city clerk by March 27 at 5 p.m. Those selected would be appointed by the City Council.

Applications are available at City Hall, the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center and the district’s high school, middle schools and community high school.
