Well-Tuned Quartet
Mark Swed’s review of the recent Bartok String Quartet performance at UCLA, saying that “they now play regularly out of tune,†makes me wonder if he attended the same concert that I did (“Bartok Quartet Honors Its Namesake,†Feb. 27). Rarely have I heard such immaculate intonation, especially dazzling in the purity of their unison and octave playing.
Swed has a way with words, but I wonder about his ears.
